About Kumalong Australia

• Supporting Positive Training Methods since 1988...

Hanne Moore and her dog Tasman Hanne Moore and Tasman

Hello! My name is Hanne Moore, and I've enjoyed being a part of the dog world for over thirty years. Some of my earliest experiences in dog training led me to create Kumalong Australia in order to manufacture dog products that are humane, easy to use and affordable.

• In the beginning...

Like most people, I first got "hooked" on training and trialing when I joined a dog-training club with my mini-poodle, "Toro". Before long, I was undertaking the NSW Canine Council's Instructors Course, and eventually became Chief Instructor. Unfortunately, choke chains and compulsive methods of training were still considered the "only" way to train a dog.

• There had to be a better way...

The more I worked with dogs, the more I felt there must be better methods of training. A few of my friends and colleagues shared the same vision, and soon we began meeting to discuss more positive training methods. Out of this beginning, People Pet Partnership was formed, and soon after, the Canine Good Citizen Programme™ was born. I was fortunate to be one of the first Coordinators for this programme, and was able to play a significant part in its development into a nationally recognized programme and leader in positive motivational pet dog training.

• Positive methods take hold...

Initially run jointly by the NSW Animal Welfare League and the People Pet Partnerhip (Australia) Inc., the Canine Good Citizen Programme™, and later the Instructors Course have since been taken over and developed by the Delta Society. For the founding members of PPP, this was a dream come true. Today, over 500 instructors have been educated in the proper use of positive methods of dog training. My legacy is to proudly wear the Canine Good Citizen Instructors' 'Badge #2' in recognition of my early contribution.

• Still in training, and it just keeps getting better...

I was among the first to offer puppy socialization classes in the early 1990's, and continue to do so today. For several years, I was an in-house trainer for Ku-ring-gai Animal Hospital and Boarding Kennels.

In 1998, I began a new, exciting venture with three other CGC-accredited instructors: Get S.M.A.R.T. Dogs (Successful Motivation and Reward Training).

Through Get S.M.A.R.T. Dogs, we offer clicker training classes for pet dogs and their owners. Our classes are both innovative and a lot of fun for dogs as well as their owners.
